The following images are meant to be an ethnographic study capturing the technological tendencies of a subject referred to as the rotting it-girl who has immersed herself in the aesthetics and culture of a 2015 Tumblr blogger. Artifacts of the mid-2010s lay the scene of a teenage girl’s bedroom as viewers travel through one night with the subject, following her mental escape from lived reality and into one of full technological immersion. The images evolve with an increasing emphasis on the blue light, embodying an inherently detrimental and increasingly addicting internet world. Tangential to the exponential blue light is the voiding of hope— as expression drains and the subject retreats into her digital fantasy, the room around her morphs into an amalgamation of her own neglect. The night ends, dawn breaks, and the subject is left in the confines of her decomposed, rotting bedroom— defined by a rejection of reality.
